StairDesigner and Quick Design Libraries: New Feature Updates|Page 2|Forum|WOOD DESIGNER
November 8, 2013
We are delighted to announce a new and improved version of the StairDesigner Quick Design libraries.
These libraries work in tandem with our StairDesigner software to allow easy application of materials and manufacturing preferences. They also include a range of stair models that highlight the design possibilities of the software.
What’s new?
- Lots of extra models including stairs with room layout enhancements
- New and popular material options for better 3D rendering
- New range of manufacturing methods and sub-methods, these style sheets define your design to manufacturing preferences and massively speed up the production process
- A reworked installer with added flexibility when writing files to an already active installation

StairDesigner 7.14a is now available to download. This update addresses a number of minor internal fixes.

We are pleased to advise that we have just released StairDesigner 7.14 including the following new features:
CNC oversizing
In the post processor export, each part may be exported with a height and width oversizing.
Newel post .cix / Biesse post processor export
Continuing the roll out of this feature across our different post processor options, it’s now possible to export the newel post as a single CIX files, or multiple files, one for each face.
Tube rail position and angle data
The postion of the selected rail from the bottom of a newel post is now shown, as well as its angle to the newel post.
Other post processor updates
- Pocketing is now available for the NC-HOPS post processor
- Horizontal milling is now available for Biesse .cix and SCM .xxl post processors

StairDesigner 7.13e is now available for download. This fixes a bug in the template printing set up.

StairDesigner 7.13d is now available for download. No new features to report, this addresses an internal bug fix only.

StairDesigner 7.13c is now available from the StairDesigner download page.
It includes a specific fix for a mirroring issue upon exporting a stringboard divided into two parts to an SCM Record CNC router when used in pendular mode.
Pendular mode is the running of the CNC machine in tow parts as if it were two machines. This allows the user to load a part while the machine is still machining another part.

A new headroom feature has been released in StairDesigner 7.13, minor fixes were released to this in StairDesigner 7.13a and StairDesigner 7.13b now the current release.
You can download StairDesigner here.
This feature allows you to set a control value in Tools > Control Values for your minimum acceptable headroom. That’s the distance between the step below the stairwell opening and the height of the opening.
You can define the dimensions of your stairwell from the Modify menu.
And edit further in the Properties menu. The headroom distance is also shown there, if it’s below your control value you’ll receive a warning.
Make a change and the headroom is automatically recalculated.
A nice simple feature to help you avoid costly errors and save time during the design process.

StairDesinger 7.12g is now available for download.
It addresses a specific printing issue with full size templates.
In the template printer settings there is a check box called page length adjustment, see below:
When activated this should restrict the printout area to the required length automatically.
However this command was previoulsy ignored by some drivers including PDF Creator.
This has now been fixed.
Please note that the fix only applies to part lengths up to 3.27m as beyond this length the command is no longer active and depends on how the specific driver functions.
This limitation would normally only occur on stringer and cut stringer printouts.

We have a number of updates to StairDesigner to tell you about today.
Current version StairDesigner 7.12f
Adjustable position of the first tube rail.
The height of the first or lowest rube rail can be adjusted in relation to the stringboard. This is useful where the default space between the rail and the steps is large and needs to be reduced for child safety reasons.
A new riser perpendicular penetration Y/N option requested by a number of 5 axis CNC users shown below.

StairDesigner 7.12e
Minor bug fixes
StairDesigner 7.12d
New BTL export file format.
This is an intermediary file format used to move data between 2 pieces of software, typically used in solid wood carpentry solutions.
DXF file output rotation option.
This allows to orientate the DXF output according to the CNC table settings
Currently, parts are placed along the x-axis. By adding a rotation angle in the post processor you can place items along the y-axis using a + or -90° rotation. Any other rotation angle is also possible but in reality, you will normally restrict yourself to 0 or +/-90°.
Every category of parts can be set individually on a specific angle. For example if there is the need to process newels along the x-axis the rotation can be set to 0°. Stringboards can be set at 90° to process along the y-axis. This is user-dependent.
StairDesigner 7.12c
Option within selected post processors to set up a specific tool for a required machining operations. An example would be to use a specific tool to machine a bullnose stringer step housing.
StairDesigner 7.12b
Minor bug fix.
StairDesigner 7.12a
Included a fix for anti-virus false positives.
