well into the second set of stairs now. Just laminating the posts up.
a quick question….
can you have a look at the top of my left string 1 and newel post 2 please.
I have laid the template and I am a bit uncertain what happens at this intersection.
looking at the plan view, it appears that Lst1 goes completely through Newel 2 and butts up to Newel 3. Can you confirm if this is the case please.
as for the first set of stairs, hopefully this coming week I will finish off the upper dec newel posts and mark the position for the horizontal stainless wire to go through. I am going to go with stainless wire instead of iron balusters. We can do this in Oz so long as the spacing is no more than 100mm. Hence why I still have not sent pics through!

Hello Pete,
here’s your stair with three winders on the first turn.
I’ve also set the handrail to 1 m high.
The height of the handrail is measured vertically above the front edge of the step where the step penetrates into the string. So theoretically the handrail follows the step nosing’s at a constant distance above them. The European standard is 900 mm, but 1m is okay. In the case of your stair the real distance above the nosing is is variable, as we have set up a straight handrail to make building the stair easier..
I’ve tried to make the going as even as possible, probably a defect from my French stair tradition where the going has always to be rigorously the same on each step. It seems as if you in Australia and other English-speaking countries variation on the winders going is not very important.
In fact, the stair with four winders on the first turn has a going that is the same for all the steps. On European standards This is a better stair.
Please revise and give me the final go-ahead and I’ll send you the working documents.

Ah, and one last thing, height of handrail above step 1000 for Australia. I had it at the default of 900 as I was not sure what the nosing is. Is that the top of the step or the top of the stringer locally?

Hi Ness,
Dims look good however the first set of winders had changed form 3 winders to 4 winders. the second set of winders are fine (3).
If you have a look at 02v03 that has 3, 02v03-1 has 4 winders, is it ok to set this back to 3 please?

Have seen the Oregon I intend to use. Looks great- heaps of character and should be a bit more fun to work with that the Vic Ash of the last set of stairs. Actually, speaking of them, they should be going in next week and I will bung some pics through.
