Hi,
You can use Division Sub-Method,
For this I have create new element, “Grooved Shelf”
Hope that’s helpful, Alex

I’m trying to set up a sub method to make all shelves have no fittings with a 5 mm groove. I can do it manually on each shelf, by setting their links to underpassing with a 5mm groove, (example attached), but I can’t work out how to set up a sub method to make this happen automatically. Could you show me how, please?

Hi,
Hi there,
A groove assembly would be much easier in the software than a half-joint assembly,
The rule in joinery is 2/3 1/3 of the thickness,
In this case, glued grooves 5mm deep would be perfectly suitable, and face to face as well.
Given the depth of the shelves, 2 D6 glued dowels are sufficient for 150mm boxes.
And if you want to use dowels everywhere, just add one every 200m (max 300mm).
(On a 600mm long shelf with 9 dowels, you can easily fit a 40/50kg oven).
BUT if your 15 mm shelves are longer than 600 mm, you need to reinforce them, otherwise they will inevitably warp in a few weeks.
I hope this helps, Alex

Hi, sorry for the delay,
I’m not forgetting you but I’m having difficulties with half-joined shelves that don’t allow me to manage the area as you’d like.
I’ll have to check with the development team before replying.
See you soon, Alex

Thanks. I need to look closely at the video to see how it works.
I haven’t built my own cabinets before, so I don’t know the best ways. Do you think dowel joints for fixed shelves and boxing are better than groove joints in 15mm material? Will groove joints make 15mm material weak? If I use dowel joints, I guess I have to cut the holes in the ends of the shelves by hand with a jig?
If dowel joints are better, then I won’t need the Halved Joint Division in my later post. I chose that because I thought the vertical division wasn’t thick enough to have grooves on both sides in the same location.
Regards
Stuart

Hi,
Reply to the message of 19 January First, I’m adding another reply to the message of 22 January.
For Small shelves we don’t have preset fitting link sub-method, but please see video to show how you can edit fitting link methods and rule

Hi
I’m using Halved Joint Divisions. In Kitchen_Wall_Centre_2, I’ve made the joint ok, but the problem I now have is adding other fixed shelves. I want to divide the areas on the right in two, adding two fixed shelves. But I don’t want the shelves to go the full width of the cabinet, just across the right hand sections, so they can’t be Halved Joint Divisions as well.
How can I add more fixed shelves after I’ve used a Half Joint Division?
I need to do the same in Kitchen_Integrated_2. This cabinet also has doors. I put a pair of doors across the whole cabinet, then surface split them to divide them up. Is that the way to do it?
Thanks
Stuart
