Hi Michel,
I don’t like only gluing as the metal and wood is expanding and contracting at different rates so the glue line is being continuously put under strain. This strain can cause the joint to weaken in time and as a stair step is naturally under a lot of strain you need a lot of glued surface area to maintain a permanent joint.
To see what options you have, can you post a drawing or sketch of the step and the brackets?

Hi Ness,
Can you advice the best way of fixing a wooden step on a metal surface ? I have to make a quarter turn stair with a metal central string and metal support steps to put wooden steps on top. The metal will have a specific color and structured powder coating ( ral 7021) . I would like to attach the steps without having visible screws on the back of the metal steps. I guess gluing with a construction kit like woodmax can be an option but is it a safe way to go ? I now it is very strong and the metal steps recess on the left and right of the wooden steps is only 10 cm per side.
