Milling for chamfer on risers |Forum|WOOD DESIGNER

Hi Arngrimur,
It means that this is still seen as bespoke programming. A standard addition depends on the market demands. They could program it, but that will come at a cost if you need it done.
If you have any interest, I can request what the cost could be and you can decide upon that information if it is worth doing it for you.

Hi Arngrimur
I got a reply from the developers as below. Depending on the format you are using
this is in case you use the XXL format
According to our knowledge, in the Xilog/XXL PP there is no specific instruction
for the sawing option; it is the same as for milling and the machining mode will
be handled by the tool number.
For the XCS format
In the new Maestro/XCS PP there is a specific instruction for each of the 2 modes,
but the sawing mode has not been developed in StairDesigner as it has not been
deemed useful so far.
If needed, we could quote you this bespoke modification.

Hello Michel.
Ahhh alright, well that’s a bummer. When they say not deemed useful, does that imply aswell, that it wont be added in the future ?

Hi Arngimur
Saw cut via the cnc as you can export it as a saw cut instead of milling but not with the xilog pp . Do you have a saw on your cnc? This seems to me the best solution to avoid any collisions.
I will contact the developers so that they can check

Hello Michel
Ahh i’ve seen that there was a saw information when creating tools and have been wondering about that for a while. As you say, theres no way of adding a saw with the xilog plus xxl options.
Yes, we use the cnc for producing windows and doors aswell, so we use the saw for that aswell. It would be perfect if the saw function could be added to xilog options.

Hi Arngimur
Can you explain your issue? As different from the normal stringboards you do not have an upper and lower angle on the riser with cutstringers. It should be only one angle which can be cut with a saw cut.

Hello Michel.
Thats true, but it still has the same problem with the machine milling from the inside of the piece. if the angle of the step is too much, then there will be a problem with the angle when milleing.
I made a new project with a exaggeration of the step. step 5 and 6 are extream but 4 is more than plausible.
There is a slight clearance.
But if the program exported the lines to be outside insted then it would never be a problem with the angle.
when u say saw cut, what do you mean ? manually or by cnc ?

Hello Michel.
I havent gotten to try that function yet, but i’ve stumbled in on the same problem on a cut stringer staircase. ( its the same as the problem i had with the penetrating newelpost )
In this case its a half turn angled steps cutstring staircase. When milling the risers i have the same issue with the milling tool coliding with the inside of the piece.
I cant see that there is another way to make these risers (and we dont want to do it by hand when installing the staircase.)
How do companies machine these risers ?

Hi Arngimur,
The developers reverted with additional information. Their experience is that 5-axis cnc users do not machine the risers at all, but they make angled milling in the stringboards. This keeps the risers straight.
You can activate this in the properties screen under the links step/ stringboard links and set the perpendicular penetration of the riser to no.
In the postprocessor, it is called the risers bias notches under the stringboard section

Hello Michel.
Alright, ill try and give it a go then.
