Hi Kevin,
A puzzle joint is strong and not so visible so this can be done. You even can use them on self-supporting stringers. I guess the inside stringers are fixed to the wall?

I seem to be limited here in the UK to small widths of timber for making strings. In the design I have attached, I have had to divide the two left hand strings into several parts in order to accommodate the bends which will mean creating joins ie puzzle joints.
As I am new to the stair manufacturing side of things, is having several joins in a stringer acceptable in the trade. Originally I had the width set to 275mm but as that seems to be the maximum wood width I can get in softwood I have reduced it to 260mm to allow for a bit of wiggle room when cnc cutting.
Many thanks in advance.
