The problem may come from 2 things, either the PDF is not at the right scale or the printer has not printed it at the right scale.
Make sure that when you print from AutoCad / Draftsight the fit to paper option is not ticked and that the scale is set to 1mm = 1mm :
Print to a PDF printer like PDF Creator.
Once the pdf file printed, to make sure the print is at the right scale, you can verify the size using PDF software like Foxit that can measure a line.
If the scale of the pdf file is OK the problem comes from your professional printer who is setting his printer to fit to paper (or some other scale) and not to 1 to 1.

I have tryed to use Autocad to make PDFs i 1:1 scale, and then I had a professional printer to print step 12, just to see if I made it right. When I measure the length of the step in Autocad, it should be 748 mm, but when I measure the print, it is 743 mm. When I try to use DraftSight, it looks like getting the sea problem. Do you have a description or a tutorial that I can follow to make the prints right?

Hi Jon,
The pdf are only scale drawings that you will not be able to print full sze.
Full size pdf’s are only available in our paid StairFile service.
To print your parts full size you have to load them into a CAD program AutoCad or you can use our free CAD Draftsight (see the software download page here:

I can send you the full size PDF’s but will have to charge you a fee of £95 (StairFile Pro) as this is not in our free service and does require extra work.

Thank you for the files. I gave the PDF to a proffesional printer, but they struggeled to make prints 1:1. I can see that many of the files is AutoCad-files. I don’t have AutoCad. How can I make PDF’s in 1:1 from the CAD-files so it will be easy to print all the parts 1:1? Can you do it for me?

Sorry to reply so late but I have been away on a trade fair in Paris fro the last week.
Here are the documents to build your stair.
I have slightly adjusted the position of the steps and strings to make housings in the newels easier.

Hello Jon,
Yes you are perfectly right with the landing step removed the wall to last nosing is 1750.
This means that in the project you have the left top post is up against the landing joist whereas the right post is sitting on the landing.

Thank you. Attached you find a simple drawing from the top of my stair. As you se, the stairwell-room is 175 cm long. Is it right to measure the lenght from the nose of the last step and over to the wall at the oposite side? I have tryed to ilustratte this With the drawing and the adjustments in my sds-Project.

Hi Jon,
To remove the last step set Landing Step to “0”
The stair is now calculated up to the nosing of the last step.
This means in your case that the post is resting on the first floor, or notched leaving only a small amount in front of the joist.
Note also that the last riser is now in the landing joist so has to be ignored.
I always advise using a landing step if at all possible.
If you leave the stair without a last step you have to adjust the position of the last post according to how you want to set up the transition with the first floor.
