{"id":1629,"date":"2013-06-22T06:58:37","date_gmt":"2013-06-22T05:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cabinetdesigner.net\/?p=1629"},"modified":"2023-07-14T13:59:00","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T12:59:00","slug":"how-to-add-plinths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wooddesigner.org\/how-to-add-plinths\/","title":{"rendered":"How to add Plinths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s very easy to add plinths to a cabinet designed with Polyboard.<\/p><p>As often though the difficulties arise when you have to adjust the details.<\/p><p>In this video I show how to set up a plinth that on one site extends the full length of the cabinet and on the other the side is cut around the plinth.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video on Setting up Plinths<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Easy Plinths\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/89356877?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure><p>This short video shows yet again the amazing versatility of Polyboard, and it&#8217;s parametric construction methods.<\/p><p>The ease and facility that one can set up all the assembly details in any piece of furniture is next to none!<\/p><p>We start by opening a model and giving it an ordinary width and depth. This will create a simple, basic cabinet.<\/p><p>To start the process of adding a plinth we need to lift the cabinet up using a parameter called elevation. If we add in an elevation it creates a new volume under the cabinet which we can use to put in a plinth.<\/p><p>To put in the plinth, all I do is hover my mouse on the volume underneath the cabinet, right click, and select add a plinth.<\/p><p>If we then look at the cabinet in 3D, we can see it goes up to the sides, but it doesn\u2019t go beyond the sides.<\/p><p>To get it to go to the end of this cabinet, we select the plinth and then look at its link properties. Instead of having a recess joint, we change this to a groove and set it at the same thickness as the side. The plinth will then go beyond the side and up to the end of the cabinet.<\/p><p>If we want to extend the side down to the floor, we simply click on the side and click on its link properties. We can then change the overlap properties to extend beyond the side.<\/p><p>If we want a cut out that goes up to the side of the plinth, we have to add a tooling to the side. We give this tooling a rectangle shape, and make the height of the rectangle the same height as the plinth, set the width of the rectangle at the same depth as the plinth, and set the x position and y position as zero.
