Hi Kurt,
Nice book shelves.
Looking forwards to seeing you next project.
All the best,
Ness
Hi Kurt!
Great job on the bookshelves!
Now, you will find that PolyBoard will save you a tremendous amount of time and effort/re-effort. (Hopefully, it won’t take you 17 years ever again! LOL)
If there’s any help this amateur woodworker can provide, let me know. I am currently working on building my very first woodworking project – a Home Bar.
Oh yeah… Like you, I am also an IT Professional (30 years now).
Cheers from Ontario, Canada!

Hi Kurt,
Thanks for posting and welcome to Wood Designer .
Thanks also for introducing yourself in detail and we would love to see you project.
Hope to be talking soon.
All the best,
Ness
Ps: the peak that I photographed goes up 2780m, we live in the valley just under the mountain. It’s rotten weather and can’t see many mountains today .
Ness and Stefan,
Thanks for the chance to introduce myself. I’m an IT professional and woodworking hobbyist in the northeast corner of the United States. I grew up watching Norm Abram’s “New Yankee Workshop”, which sparked ambitions to design and build. My collection of tools was tiny until 1996 when I inherited a Shopsmith Mark V from my grandfather. My development of the hobby has been slow going, but last year I finally kicked into gear and finished a project I started 17 years prior. It was a pair of bookshelves from one of Norm’s books. What a sense of accomplishment to finally complete that project! Now to maintain momentum.
I was thrilled to find Polyboard last week in my search for furniture design tools. What a fantastic tool that did exactly what I was looking for:
- A lateral file drawer base with hutch shelves above, inspired by The Frances Wall System at Arthur W. Brown. For those who are interested, they sell for around $1700 unfinished. I did a simple mock-up in Polyboard with the exact dimensions then placed it in a model of my office using project mode. The ceiling in my office is 100″ high, which dwarfed the 66″ tall unit. So I’m working on modifications to add pencil drawers to the base, above the file drawers, and add another shelf to the hutch.
- An organization unit for the base of my closet. Mine is a standard, small closet, so it would be just a couple of drawers with shoe shelves on either side.
I look forward to learning more about Polyboard and interacting with everyone on the forum. I already have some questions on how to modify the file drawers, which I’ll post shortly in the proper forum.
Thanks again,
Kurt
P.S. Your recent newsletter with photo of Grenoble looks a lot like New Hampshire, though your mountains are a tad bigger.
